ReconRelay began with a vision to revolutionize the automotive reconditioning process, sparked by the insights of Chandler Matlock, a detail operations manager, who recognized the need within the industry. Chandler realized that bottlenecks in the reconditioning cycle were often misattributed to various departments without a comprehensive understanding of the entire dealership’s operations. To address this issue, she began to meticulously track the lifecycle of each used car using Excel, from the moment it was traded in until it was frontline ready with photos complete.
This detailed tracking system provided executive leadership with actionable data and analytics, enabling ReconRelay to pinpoint the exact stages where delays occurred. By clearly defining accountability, our company helped shift the focus from blaming the various departments to understanding and addressing the true sources of inefficiency within the dealership. This approach protected the reputation of the autonomous departments and created a culture of continuous improvement. Driven by a passion for reducing turnaround times and enhancing operational efficiency, ReconRelay evolved into a powerful tool that leverages data to streamline processes and drive dealership success.
ReconRelay began as a simple yet powerful idea born out of necessity and a drive for efficiency. Initially, our journey started with an Excel spreadsheet, where dates from purchase orders and repair orders were painstakingly transcribed by hand. This archaic process required tracking down these documents manually and entering the data into the spreadsheet. Using many formulas, the days each car spent in each department were calculated, providing valuable insights into the reconditioning process.
The brainchild of our detail operations manager, this tracking system evolved into a weekly report for the dealership’s executive team. Every week, the findings were compiled and presented, highlighting areas of inefficiency and pinpointing bottlenecks in the reconditioning cycle. These meetings brought accountability and cultivated a culture of continuous improvement. The success of these reports laid the foundation for ReconRelay, transforming a manual, labor-intensive process into an innovative software solution that streamlines operations, reduces holding costs, and accelerates the frontline readiness of used cars.
